      Collaborative Pianists - Liz Upchurch

    • Collaborative pianists workshop at the Orford Music Academy.

      By popular demand, this unique workshop is back!

      Whether to accompany your fellow instrumentalists and singers or playing for choirs, ballet classes or even to replace the entire orchestra during opera rehearsals, pianists are in demand in many fields, which requires a great deal of versatility.

      This workshop is designed to equip you for the various situations that collaborative pianists face. Here are some of the topics that will be covered during the workshop:

      • Orchestral reduction
      • Improvisation
      • Ornamentation
      • Diction
      • Figured Bass and Recitative
      • Sight-reading
      • Play and sing simultaneously

       


      Faculty
      Pianist, vocal coach and pedagogue Liz Upchurch performs with the top Canadian and international vocal artists and is currently in her 20th season as Head of the Canadian Opera Company’s Ensemble Studio, Canada’s premier training program for young opera professionals. She performed her first major recital at the age of eight, one year after having accepting a coveted place at the Centre for Young Musicians, a music school for gifted children in London, England. She continued her training at the Royal Academy of Music, where she was an award-winning pianist, receiving top prizes in both solo piano and chamber music. READ MORE

      Virtual & In-Person Academy

      • 2.5 hours of individual instruction per week
      • 1 group activity (master class, Q&A, technique class)
      • 1+ student concerts per week
      • Access to a collaborative pianist
      • Networking with fellow musicians
      • Access to lectures presented by both music and non-music professionals on various subjects pertaining to a musician’s career, such as technique, finance, psychology, fitness, etc. 

      On Campus
      In addition to the items listed above, you will have access to:

      • Accommodation in one of our 2 artist residences
      • Three meals per day and access to a kitchen and common areas
      • Practice studios equipped with pianos (available 6AM-11PM)
      • Housekeeping, laundry (fee), parking, and free WiFi
      • Complimentary tickets to live performances at the Gilles-Lefebvre Concert Hall, subject to availability
      • The opportunity to explore the heart of beautiful Mont-Orford National Park

    Applications received after the Second Round deadline will be processed on a first-come, first-served basis.

    Fees:

    Please note that scholarships can cover up to 75% of tuition fees.

    1 week at Orford: $653.05 / week (CAD)
    2 weeks at Orford: $603.05 / week (CAD)
    3 or more weeks: $553.05 / week (CAD)

    Additional fees will apply for Room & Board if studying on-campus.
