Discovery Concert
One of Quebec’s most prominent avant-garde ensembles, Paramirabo is unafraid to provoke reflection by pushing the boundaries of the traditional concert. This concert will celebrate both past and present composition teachers of the Orford Music Academy: Ana Sokolović, Jimmie LeBlanc, and Zosha Di Castri.
The works presented will take the audience on an intense and captivating journey: the enveloping textures of Missy Mazzoli’s Still Life with Avalanche, the intricate structures of Di Castri’s La forma dello spazio, the introspective outcries of LeBlanc’s Clamors of Being, and the moments of wonder in Philippe Macnab-Séguin’s It Was Inside You All Along. Sokolović’s Ciaccona will revisit the past with a modern touch, while Julius Eastman’s Joy Boy will close the concert with explosive energy.

The ensemble’s flutist, Jeffrey Stonehouse, has been the group’s artistic director since its founding.Taking its name from the piece Paramirabo, by Montreal composer Claude Vivier, the ensemble’s roots date back to 2008 at the Conservatoire de musique de Montréal.
