      About Jimmy Brière

      Noted for his authentic musicianship and accomplished technique, Canadian pianist Jimmy Brière leads a brilliant career as soloist, chamber musician and teacher.

      An outstanding soloist, he has appeared with the Orchestre symphonique de Montréal, the Orchestre symphonique de Québec, I Musici, the Orquestra Clássica do Porto, the Pleven Philharmonic Orchestra and the Rousse Philharmonic Orchestra. He has also performed in many major cities in the USA, China, Spain, Portugal, Italy, Bulgaria, and Israel. In Canada, he ranks among artists invited regularly to the most prestigious festivals and musical events, such as the Festival de Lanaudière, the Ottawa International Chamber Music Festival, the Orford Music Festival, the Banff Centre for the Arts, the Festival of the Sound and many others.

      Highly sought after as a chamber musician, he appears with renowned artists and groups including double bassist Edgar Meyer, clarinetist James Campbell, the New Zealand String Quartet and the Canadian Chamber Players. Since 2017, he is a member of the Trio Hochelaga.

      In 2010, Jimmy Brière releases his first solo cd on Analekta label presenting a very original recital program composed of piano works written by famous Oscar-winning composers: Korngold, Rota, and Corigliano. The disc was very well received by critics in Canada and around the world. Previously, another CD was released on XXI-21 label, featuring piano solo and chamber music by Jean Françaix.

      Prize winner at numerous international competitions, winner of an Opus Prize, Jimmy Brière has earned degrees from the Faculty of Music at the University of Montreal, from Indiana University and from the Glenn Gould School in Toronto, where he studied with Marc Durand, Leon Fleisher, Menahem Pressler, and André Laplante. He currently holds a position as associate professor in the Faculty of Music at the University of Montreal.
