Message from the Artistic Director
I am pleased to present the 2017 edition of the Orford Music Festival, my second as artistic director. I promise a spectacular season with events for every taste. I am firmly committed to making classical music accessible to everyone and, with this in mind, we are creating opportunities to meet and discuss with the artists, including question and answer sessions before and after concerts. Stay tuned: these activities, which give you the chance to learn more about the choice of repertoire and the artists’ creative approaches, will be announced on our website.
This summer, I look forward to giving the audience opportunities to discover new aspects of classical music with artists who are constantly innovating, reinventing and pushing the limits. In particular, I have in mind harpist Valérie Milot, who will be with us for a magnificent opening concert; jazz saxophonist Yannick Rieu, very much inspired by music and sounds from around the world; and the Kuss Quartet, a remarkable quartet that sets itself apart through its original use of space on the stage.
We will also welcome several well-known artists and favourites of the Orford audience: Marc-André Hamelin, for two concerts; jazzwoman Lorraine Desmarais and her 15-piece band; cellist Stéphane Tétreault; the Orford Six Pianos ensemble; and virtuoso André Laplante. The Orchestre symphonique de Québec and conductor Fabien Gabel will make a guest appearance.
This summer season, we will pay tribute to Canadian composers as we celebrate the 150th anniversary of Canada’s Confederation. The music of several Canadian composers will be performed by our guest artists, including creations by Simon Bertrand, André Prévost and François Morel.
The Festival will once again present some 50 free activities for the whole family, including two visual art exhibitions, a movie night, the third edition of Family Day and a new series of concerts, Classical Picnics, given by our talented young artists.
Come and enjoy an exceptional summer season with us!
Have a great festival!
