    • Les grandes sonates romantiques

Stéphane Tétreault and Chloé Dumoulin will captivate you on this enchanting journey into the heart of Romanticism.

With Requiebros by Gaspar Cassadó, the two instruments immediately engage in dialogue through lively, colorful music infused with Spanish flair, where expressivity and flexibility draw the listener in. The Sonata for Cello and Piano, Op. 65 by Frédéric Chopin extends this exchange in a more intimate atmosphere, where the musical lines intertwine with delicacy and depth.

The concert culminates with the Sonata for Cello and Piano, Op. 19 by Rachmaninov, a monumental work of virtuosity and passion. The duo will reveal their full energy and precision in an intense and dramatic interpretation, alternating between tenderness and sweeping lyrical passages.

A former student of the Orford Music Academy, Stéphane Tétreault is now a faculty member and a regular guest at the Festival. He has also been welcomed in artistic residence. Chloé Dumoulin, also a former Academy student, has been one of our collaborative pianists since 2024.

      Chloé Dumoulin
Named one of CBC’s “30 Hot Canadian Classical Musicians Under 30,” pianist Chloé Dumoulin is emerging as one of the most promising artists of her generation. With playing that is both sensitive and refined, as well as deeply expressive, she is recognized for “an impressive command of the instrument’s sound, with a tone that never overwhelms the listener, even in fortissimos passages” (Le Soleil), as well as for “a commendable sense of suspense” in her musical storytelling.

Her nuanced playing is further distinguished by “a timbral palette constantly aligned with the evolution of the harmony,” and, according to critic Emmanuel Bernier, reveals “an artist who truly has something to say.”
