An internationally recognized pedagogue, Simon James has earned worldwide acclaim as one of the foremost violin teachers in the United States. Over the course of his distinguished performing career, he has been a member of several prestigious orchestras, including the Seattle Symphony, the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra, and Lincoln Center’s Mostly Mozart Orchestra. As concertmaster of the Northwest Sinfonia, he can be heard on hundreds of motion picture, television, and video game soundtracks, and has performed live with Pearl Jam, Elton John, Billy Joel, A. R. Rahman, and many others. He has recorded concertos with the Seattle Symphony and the Slovak Radio Symphony, with which he premiered Richard Englefield’s Violin Concerto.
During your stay at Orford Music, you will create unforgettable memories while evolving into the artist you aspire to be. Orford Music’s master classes are unique opportunities to work on your goals with the mentors of your choice.
The master classes include the following:
- Master classes, individual lessons or technical courses lasting 2.5 hours per week
- Opportunity to perform in student concerts
- Access to a collaborative pianist
- Networking activities with faculty members and the student community
- Accommodation in double occupancy and three meals per day.
- Practice studios equipped with pianos (available from 7AM to 12AM)
- Housekeeping, laundry facilities, parking, and free Wi-Fi
- Free tickets for concerts at Salle Gilles-Lefebvre (subject to availability)
- Opportunity to discover the beautiful landscapes of Parc national du Mont-Orford, the majestic Lake Memphremagog, and the tourist activities of the city of Magog
- Rehearsal studios equipped with pianos (available from 6AM to 11PM)
