Rediscover Antonio Vivaldi’s The Four Seasons as you’ve never heard them before, brought to life by the originality and flamboyant verve of concertmaster Julie Triquet and the orchestra I Musici de Montréal. The musicians invite you to experience the elements of nature, shifting weather, and village life that Vivaldi himself asks performers to evoke through their playing. The shepherd, the true hero of this story, will in turn experience the joy of spring’s arrival, rustic dances and bagpipes, the peacefulness of sleep in the heather, the oppressive heat of summer, the visceral fear of thunderstorms, the exuberance of the harvest, the hunt, and finally the biting cold of winter and the clash of northern winds.
The program then turns to the evocative world of Quebec pianist and composer Julie Thériault. Through her works, including Mirage, she paints sensitive and nuanced sonic landscapes where imagination meets refined writing. Her music, both introspective and luminous, opens a different space for resonance, inviting a more inward and poetic listening experience—where each listener can create their own inner cinema.
Julie Thériault has been a regular participant in Orford Musique’s artistic residencies since the program was launched in 2021, returning each year to develop her projects.
Artists
Julie Triquet
Julie Triquet began her violin studies at the tender age of three under Claude Létourneau. She went on to study at the Conservatoire de musique de Québec and has since received three annual professional development grants from the Canada Council for the Arts to study under David Cerone and Aaron Rosand at the prestigious Curtis Institute of Music in Philadelphia. While in Philadelphia, Julie Triquet received the coveted Sylva-Gelber Music Foundation Award presented by the Canada Council for the Arts.Julie Thériault
Classically trained pianist Julie Thériault is active in composition and performance, as well as in visual art and piano pedagogy.A graduate in piano performance from the Université de Montréal (studying with Marc Durand), she founded the École de musique of Collège Jean-de-Brébeuf in 1996, which she directed until 2001. In the years that followed, she pursued various forms of training, including improvisation workshops in New York with the organization Music for People.
At the same time, she began exploring painting, quickly discovering a new outlet for her creativity. For her, painting and music are two complementary “vibrational worlds” that enrich one another.
Orchestre I Musici de Montréal
The I Musici de Montréal chamber orchestra has been a pillar of musical life in Quebec and internationally since its founding in 1983. The musicians, who now collectively assume artistic direction and perform without a conductor, offer interpretations and presentations of classical works that highlight their relevance and connections to today’s social challenges. They seek to rethink the concert experience and establish a genuine dialogue with Montreal communities through collaborative artistic partnerships.
