Concert
For decades, Astor Piazzolla’s music has been performed worldwide by virtually every imaginable musical ensemble. However, rare are the opportunities to hear the music of the great champion of tango nuevo performed by the very formation for which much of it was composed: a tango quintet, where violin, piano, electric guitar, and double bass join the emblematic sound of the bandoneón—the bellows-driven instrument of which Piazzolla was an undisputed virtuoso.
The legendary Argentine musician toured the world with his quintet, performing in cities such as Cologne, Amsterdam, New York, and Montreal, where the ensemble gave a now-iconic concert at the Jazz Festival in 1984. Paying tribute to Piazzolla’s quintet, this concert presents his music as Piazzolla intended.
